Accabonac home gym in East Hampton, looking from the art wall to the rack

Residential · Accabonac, East Hampton, NY · 250 sq ft

An existing gym that was not up to code, in a house the client set the pace for.

The brief

There was already a gym in that room and it was not up to code. That is where this one started, and it is a different job from an empty room. You are undoing something before you build anything.

I was training both of them at the time. Howard deals art deco and mid-century furniture for a living, so he set the pace on how the room should look and I designed to it. Dark and sleek. The art on the walls matters as much as the equipment does, which is not something I get to say often.

Rogue for the strength side, Technogym for the rest.
